Mattress Shopping for Higher Body Weights: Support Questions Worth Asking

When shopping for a mattress for a higher body weight, a useful conversation starts with specifications. “Extra firm”, “high density” and “thick” describe different things. None should be treated as a substitute for a confirmed load rating.

Ask for the rating that applies to your situation

Request the recommended user-weight limits for the exact model and ask whether the figure applies per person or to the whole bed. For a shared mattress, describe the combined use. If the retailer does not publish a rating, ask for confirmation before purchase instead of estimating from a photograph or price.

Araamco Care lists an extra-firm feel. That does not establish a particular weight capacity. Contact Araamco with your intended use and ask which model and base combinations are appropriate.

Include the bed frame in the discussion

Inspect the frame, centre supports, joints and surface supporting the mattress. Ask whether your base type and support spacing suit the model. A mattress purchase should not be used to conceal a damaged or unsuitable frame.

If you are replacing an existing mattress, take photographs of the base and its dimensions when seeking guidance. Mention whether the bed is used by one or two people and whether sitting at the edge is an important part of daily use.

Test movement as well as the first impression

Where possible, lie in your usual sleeping position, turn over and sit near the edge. Compare how easy the movements feel. A brief hand-press test cannot reproduce normal use, and a very hard surface is not automatically the best match.

Ask about the actual materials, available thickness and maintenance instructions. Avoid assuming that every Ortho model, foam model or spring model has the same construction.

Confirm the after-sales terms

Keep a record of the model, selected variant, recommended base and any confirmed usage limits. Read its warranty card and the comfort exchange conditions before ordering.

Start with the Araamco Ortho collection, then compare with the foam range. Our team can help check specifications; a firmness name alone cannot answer the capacity question.
